If you are married to someone, they are your husband or wife.

When you marry someone, you become their husband or wife during a special ceremony.

Note that you do not say that someone `marries to' someone else.

'get married'
You do not usually use marry without an object. You do not say, for example, that a person `marries' or that two people `marry'. You say that they get married.

I'm getting married next month.

When they got married, he wanted a big ceremony.

In stories, marry is sometimes used without an object. This is an old-fashioned use.

Your sister and I have every right to marry if we wish to.
